Franchise teams participating in different leagues across the world is the new trend and we’re now seeing the same in the latest T10 tournament in Africa called the Zim Afro T10 competition. This year will be the inaugural edition of the tournament and it will be launched and owned by T Ten Sports Management, which is the same team to run several successful editions of the Abu Dhabi T10.
The first edition of the Zim Afro T10 was announced at the end of the last edition of the 2022 Abu Dhabi T10, and the competition will have 5 participating teams, following the double round-robin format, followed by eliminators and the 2023 Zim Afro T10 final. Since the tournament has already been around for a few years in UAE, this one is kicking off in style, with several big international names in the fray.
2023 Zim Afro T10 dates and schedule
The first edition of the competition was announced for July 2023 last year and after all the specifics were sorted out, the dates were eventually finalised. As many as 700 players from a total of 23 cricketing countries took part in the first ever Zim Afro T10 draft, for the 5 squads to be established, and the teams are – Joburg Buffaloes, Bulawayo Braves, Cape Town Samp Army, Durban Qalandars, and Harare Hurricanes.
T Ten Management started the league in collaboration with Zimbabwe Cricket, and there will be regional teams from both Zimbabwe as well as South Africa. The Zim Afro T10 2023 dates have been announced with the inaugural edition set to take place between 20-29 July 2023. Quite a few Indian players will also be in action in this tournament, along with many retired international cricketers.

The official 2023 Zim Afro T20 schedule is not yet out, last updated 9th July 2023, with the number of T10 games on the schedule also yet to be announced. Cricket’s fastest format T10 has moved from Abu Dhabi to Zimbabwe and if this experiment goes well, we may see this competition expand to quite a few other countries in the years to come.
