Yuvraj Singh Released by Kings XI Punjab

Earlier today, we spoke about Gautam Gambhir and other star players being released by Delhi Daredevils. On the other hand, Kings XI Punjab released as many as 11 players ahead of the IPL 2019 auction which also includes star Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh.

They have retained only 9 players from the IPL 2018 squad, earlier also trading Marcus Stoinis to acquire the services of Mandeep Singh from Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

Yuvraj had a very poor IPL 2018 season for Kings XI Punjab with both bat and ball. He featured in 8 games in which he scored just 65 runs at a mere batting average of just over 10. This is a nothing performance for a player like Yuvraj Singh. And to increase his worries, he bowled just 2 overs in the entire 2018 tournament!

In the IPL 2018 edition, KXIP had won 5 games out of their first 7 and almost looked to secure a place in the Qualifiers. However, with a disappointing show in the second half (1 win in the next 7 games) of the tournament saw them finish at 7th position (second from last)! And that has caused them to make a lot of changes to their backroom staff as well recently.

Ravichandran Ashwin who led Kings XI in the last edition has been retained and is set to take up the leadership role in the upcoming edition as well. Chris Gayle, David Miller, Mujeeb ur Rahman and Andrew Tye are the only four overseas players retained by the franchise for the upcoming 12th edition of IPL. KXIP now have 15 slots available going into the auction out of which 11 are for Indian players and 4 are for overseas players.

Retained Players for IPL 2019: Lokesh Rahul, Chris Gayle, Andrew Tye, Mayank Agarwal, Ankit Rajpoot, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Karun Nair, David Miller and Ravichandran Ashwin.

Released Players for IPL 2019: Aaron Finch, Axar Patel, Mohit Sharma, Yuvraj Singh, Barinder Sran, Ben Dwarshuis, Manoj Tiwary, Akshdeep Nath, Pardeep Sahu, Mayank Dagar and Manzoor Dar.

Traded Players: Marcus Stoinis to acquire Mandeep Singh from RCB.
