World Championship of Legends (WCL) Centuries List

Scoring a century with the bat (100 runs) is super difficult in T20 cricket and it then becomes even tougher when there’s a league for retired players. We’re talking about the recently launched World Championship of Legends (WCL) which is a retired cricketers’ T20 competition, which had its inaugural season taking place in England in July 2024, and then again for WCL 2025.

On this page, we’re particularly going to talk about the best batting efforts in the tournament, specifically all the WCL centuries scored in the competition. Considering there’s no super competitive efforts being put in by the players and that it’s mostly a friendly atmosphere, the WCL all centuries list hasn’t been a very long one so far.

World Championship of Legends (WCL) Centuries List

The first player to get a World Championship of Legends century was South Africa’s Sarel Erwee who smashed 105* against Pakistan Champions. The then 34-year old was still playing competitive, professional cricket at the time, so there were questions asked about whether it was fair to include him in the side or not. However, that doesn’t take away from his beautiful knock which was the first WCL century.

However, he was bested just the next day as Australia Champions took West Indies to the cleaners with a mammoth 274 runs scored on the board, in 20 overs. It was the left-handed Australian Ben Dunk who smashed a record 34-ball century in that game. Dunk retired recently from professional cricket, but was on top of his game when he did. However, it’s still fair for him to be considered as part of the ‘Australia Champions’ side of legends. His century may be tough to beat in the WC legends tournament in editions to come, in terms of the number of balls taken to get there. AB de Villiers was the third entry in the WCL centuries list.

There were other players who narrowly missed entering the WC Legends centuries list, including Dan Christian in the same game that Dunk scored a century, getting run out for 99 on the final ball of the innings, also having played 34 deliveries. England Champions saw Ian Bell register a score of 97 in the WCL 2024 season as well, missing out by only 3 runs!

Sarel Erwee WCL century

South Africa were chasing 211 in Birmingham against Pakistan, the latter being the most feared bowling attack in the tournament. However, Erwee’s century allowed them to do it with ease, completing the chase with 9 balls to spare, combining with Jacques Snyman to stitch up a 187-run partnership for the second wicket.

Ben Dunk WCL century

Batting first, Australia Champions played fearless cricket led by Ben Dunk who scored at a whopping strike rate of 285.71. His century included as many as 12 fours and 7 sixes, which means 90% of his runs were scored in boundaries. He brought up his century with a six down the ground, before holing out the next ball against Ashley Nurse.
