There are always twists and turns and momentum shifts in a 5-match Test series and we’ve witnessed the same in the ongoing England vs India series as well. After trailing 0-1 post two games, the hosts England made a great recovery with a smashing win, handing India its first innings defeat in over 3 years.
Now, all eyes go to the 4th Test and both teams will be wanting to sport their best playing eleven and try to take a lead from the current 1-1 scoreline. For India, we’re expecting Ravi Ashwin to come in for Ravindra Jadeja as the latter has been very ineffective with the ball so far. Other options who could play include Hanuma Vihari and/or Shardul Thakur as well.

For the hosts, the squad for the 4th Test has already been announced and the biggest update from there is that Jos Buttler is missing out. Why is Jos Buttler not playing the 4th Test? Well, he’s got some great news back at home and has been granted leave from the series since he’s expecting the arrival of his second child.
Sam Billings has been called up as a replacement wicket-keeper but he’s unlikely to play since he’s more of a limited-overs specialist. Furthermore, Jonny Bairstow is in the playing eleven and can handle wicket-keeping duties. Another name to make a comeback to the side is Chris Woakes and he’s back after missing the first 3 Tests because of a heel injury.
Woakes was selected as PCA Men’s Player of the Year for his great contributions in 2020, but he hasn’t played a Test since August 2020. In the pace bowling department, Mark Wood will continue to be monitored while Saqib Mahmood has been released from the side, to play his team Lancashire’s County Championship game starting on Monday!
