Having started soon after the men’s version picked up in popularity in Australia, the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) has a short history but we’ve seen some pretty iconic performances over the years here. Some of these contributions have come with the bat while the others have come with the ball, while sometimes we’ve had all-rounders perform and win matches single handedly as well.
While most of the records spoken about are for the batters because T20 is a batter’s game (see WBBL most runs list), we have some players who have earned a name in the competition because of their abilities to pick wickets at regular intervals, over the seasons as well. In this article’s list below, we’ve mentioned the top bowlers in WBBL history…
Before we get into the top wicket-takers in WBBL, why don’t you even take a walk down memory lane and check out our complete list of all WBBL winners till date?! As of date, three of the top five bowlers in WBBL history are spinners, so that’s a massive indicator of the slower bowlers doing well in the women’s version of the Big Bash League.

Topping the WBBL wicket-takers list of all-time is none other than off-spinner Molly Strano. She’s been around since a while and her record in WBBL in unmatched, with 124 scalps in a little over 100 games, and that kind of a record speaks for itself. She also is one of only five players to get a 5-fer in WBBL history, with her best spell of 5/15 being the second best figures in this tournament too.
Another spinner at the top is Jess Jonassen who has enjoyed a longer national side career than Strano, but has still managed to keep her numbers in WBBL pretty impressive. Her guile as a bowler makes her the only person in WBBL history to have as many as four separate 4-wicket hauls to her name (all for Brisbane Heat Women), the best being 4/13.
A notable mention has to be made for Sarah Aley who has played her entire career for Sydney Sixers and despite having played only three international games for Australia Women, she managed to maintain the best bowling average from bowlers on this list. The best bowling economy rate of 5.26 is held by Marizanne Kapp, who has also bowled the most number of WBBL maidens – a whopping 16 maidens!
