Over the years, everyone associated with professional sports in India stayed away from any sort of sports betting associations. However, the lines are getting blurred of late and there are many present and former Indian cricketers getting themselves involved with such betting platforms, primarily because the money involved is so much.
Ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024 which is being held in the West Indies and USA, former Indian cricket Head Coach Ravi Shastri seems to have joined the bandwagon. While he wasn’t outright promoting betting, he released a short video endorsing Stake.com, which is a leading global sports betting website.
Ravi Shastri promotes Stake.com
“S in @Stake stands for Shaz 😎 stake is the place to be …. #stake #T20WorldCup” was the caption to his 15-second video which was meant to get fans hyped up before the T20 World Cup 2024 began. He spoke about how we’re bringing the game to the Big Apple (New York) and his friends in the West Indies. See his Stake.com post here:

Ravi Shastri is one of four Indians in an elite commentary panel of 40 people for the T20 World Cup. The other Indians include Dinesh Karthik, Harsha Bhogle, and Sunil Gavaskar. We’ll all be looking forward to hearing some signature Ravi Shastri commentary lines over the course of the next few weeks.

“You lost it, betting company advertisement” said one user on Twitter (X), in reply to Shastri’s post. “Betting krna galat baat🥲” said another user. On the positive side, people praised Shastri for his commentary skills, swagger, and also his choice in shirts, as he’s wearing an exotic shirt in the video you can see above.
Ravi Shastri was brought on board to the Stake team in April 2024, and he was also part of a brand ad campaign. However, Shastri posted an exclusive disclaimer on the post saying that it’s not meant for the Indian region, as there are strict rules against online betting for Indians.
