Today was Match 18 of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2023 edition between Barbados Royals and St Kitts & Nevis Patriots. The Patriots put up a massive 220/4 in their quota of 20 overs but it wasn’t going to be enough, apparently. Three St Kitts batsmen got fifties but it took only one Barbados batsman to tear the former apart in today’s clash.
We’re talking about the big man Rahkeem Cornwall who often cops a lot of criticism because of his fitness (or lack of), but the 30-year old West Indian all-rounder put on a show for everyone to watch here. He smashes sixes to every part of the ground to bring up a CPL 2023 century, and guide his side to a relatively easy victory…
Rahkeem Cornwall CPL 2023 celebration
His knock was one for the ages and was absolutely amazing to watch, as he smashed 4 boundaries and as many as 12 sixes through his unbeaten knock. A few games ago, he was criticised for some poor running which saw him being run out on the first ball of the game; today, he proved to everyone why he deserves to have a place in the side, as an opener too. In all, he got to a score of 102(48)* scoring at an unbelievable strike rate of 210+, which was good enough for the Royals to chase down 221 with a few wickets and two whole overs to spare. Eventually, he had to be retired hurt because of obvious fitness reasons, but he had already done his job for the Royals by then. Add this to his spell of 2/27 in 3 overs with the ball earlier in the day.

The gentle giant smashed a six followed by a single to get to the all-important century milestone. There was some monstrous hitting on display and Cornwall soaked in all the applause from the home fans, who got complete value for money for coming out to watch this encounter. He got to the milestone in the 15th over and he had to walk away with the physio in the 16th over, leaving Alick Athanaze and Rovman Powell to finish up the job. Eventually, they got over the line with 8 wickets in hand and this will go down as one of the best CPL chases in the tournament’s history. No prizes for guessing who was awarded the Man of the Match!
