Today, the world witnessed one of the best knocks in women’s cricket history. We’re talking about a match between Hobart Hurricanes and Perth Scorchers in the ongoing Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) in Australia. Hobart opener Lizelle Lee from South Africa broke all records as she smashed her way to a career-best and WBBL-best score of 150*.
She hit sixes to every corner of the ground and entertained everyone watching from across the globe, in an innings involving 12 fours and 12 sixes, and a majority of her runs coming from boundaries itself. Her knock came at a strike rate of 200 as she propelled the Hurricanes Women to 203/3 in their 20 overs.
Lizelle Lee scores record 150*
She scored nearly 75% of the team’s runs and broke all records in WBBL history. Grace Harris had scored 136* in WBBL 2023 for Brisbane Heat, which broke an earlier record of Smriti Mandhana of 114*. Here, Lee’s 150* cruised past Harris’ record for the highest individual score in the WBBL, and we don’t see this record being broken again anytime soon.

The score of 203/3 was also the 8th highest team score in WBBL history, and the second highest individual score on the team sheet after Lee was 23. This single handed effort was acknowledged by hundreds and thousands of people on Twitter (now X), and we’ve highlighted some of the best tweets here in this article as well.

The knock was also the highest ever individual score by a women’s player from a full-member country. In women’s T20 internationals, Alyssa Healy once scored 148* against Sri Lanka Women. Even in the men’s Big Bash League, only once has a player scored 150+ and that Glenn Maxwell who scored 154* in BBL 2022/23.
It doesn’t matter that the ropes are further in (in the womens game vs the mens game) when you’ve got Lizelle Lee hitting them into the 5th row of the stands🚀#WBBL10

The tweet above also mentions that some of the sixes she hit in this knock would’ve cleared the boundaries in any men’s match as well. There’s no doubt that she would’ve received the player of the match award for this most memorable innings, that neither she nor her franchise is going to forget anytime soon.

It was Lee’s 4th WBBL century, and she is now only behind Healy on the all-time most WBBL centuries list. In fact, the last WBBL century before today’s one was scored by Lee itself, in WBBL 2023 for the same franchise.
