The last few days have been forgetful ones for Australian middle order batsman, Jake Weatherald. He had a bit of a mishap in a net session while receiving throw downs, which saw him get a blow to the jaw. After failing a concussion test, he has been ruled out of South Australia’s next Marsh One Day clash. However, that wasn’t even his highlight of the week.
In a Sheffield Shield match that ended last Friday, Weatherald was once again in the limelight as he got into a bit of a bizarre situation on the field. The 27-year old was batting when the opponents decided to stir up the SA batsmen at the crease. In between overs, Queensland’s Matt Renshaw went on to place a fielder’s helmet right near the batsman’s crease, which didn’t go down well with the batters.

As Weatherald walked towards the pitch, he gave it a football style kick which saw the helmet fly a few meters out. Very soon, Queensland captain Usman Khawaja was seen walking down and having a stern word with the batsman. Clearly, he wasn’t impressed with the kick and soon, the umpires needed to step in and cool down the situation.

While most people on social media have said that it wasn’t a good incident int his gentleman’s game, we honestly feel everything about it was good. In FC matches, fielders try to get under the skin of the batsmen, and that’s what they did. Weatherald replied well and the opponent captain also did well to speak to him. Let’s not forget, the umpires did well to step in too!
