Virat Kohli Becomes Fastest to 10,000 ODI Runs

There it is! The much awaited moment by the cricket fans across the globe is here! Indian captain Virat Kohli has surpassed Sachin Tendulkar to become the fastest player (in terms of innings) to 10,000 runs in ODI cricket. And in doing so, he broke too many records. We at Read Scoops went on to list down some of the statistical highlights of Virat Kohli’s record-breaking knock in the second ODI between India and West Indies in Visakhapatnam.

5 – Number of ODIs Virat Kohli played at Visakhapatnam. He has gone past the fifty mark in all those five ODIs. 118, 117, 99, 65 and 157* are his scores in ODIs played in Visakhapatnam.

205 – Number of ODI innings taken by the Indian captain to complete 10,000 runs in ODIs. He becomes the fastest (in terms of innings) to get to this milestone. Sachin Tendulkar was the previous holder of this record in 259 innings. Sourav Ganguly (263 innings), Ricky Ponting (266) and Jacques Kallis (272) are next in this list.

5 – Kohli becomes fifth player from India to complete 10,000 runs in ODI cricket. Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid and Mahendra Singh Dhoni are the other players from India to complete 10k runs in ODIs before Virat Kohli.

11 – Number of innings taken by Virat Kohli to score the his last 1,000 career runs in ODIs (from 9,000 to 10,000 ODI runs). This is the least number of innings he took to score 1,000 runs in his ODI career. He took 14 innings to score from 7,000 to 8,000 career runs which was his previous best.

10,813 – Number of deliveries taken by Virat Kohli to complete 10,000 runs in ODIs. These are now the fewest taken by any player to get to this milestone. Previous best was 11296 deliveries by Sri Lanka’s Sanath Jayasuriya.

59.17 – Kohli’s batting average in ODIs when he got to the 10k-run milestone in ODIs. He is the second player after MS Dhoni (51.30) to have a batting average of over 50 while completing the milestone.

37 – Number of ODI centuries for Virat Kohli including his unbeaten 157* against West Indies in the second ODI. Only Sachin Tendulkar (49 hundreds) has scored more than Virat Kohli.

South African player Hashim Amla is the only player in the current crop of players who can better the record created by Virat Kohli (10,000 runs in 205 innings) in this format.
