After the first game of IPL 2024, #Chapri was trending all over Twitter (now called X) in relation to Mumbai Indians’ new captain, Hardik Pandya. There’s a lot of negative criticism around him because he came back to the Mumbai franchise and was asked to replace Rohit Sharma as the captain, which didn’t go down too well with MI fans.
However, Pandya could’ve still earned the love of the MI team if he performed well and did the right things on the ground. However, his batting has been below average and his antics on the field haven’t been up to the mark either. In their last game against Sunrisers Hyderabad, he was seen pushing away MI and Sri Lankan legend, Lasith Malinga.

Malinga for the longest time held the record for most IPL wickets and all of those came while playing for Mumbai Indians itself. He’s now a part of the team as bowling coach and after their loss, Malinga was seen walking towards the players for the customary handshakes. One could assume that there’s some tension between Pandya and Malinga because another video went viral where both of Malinga and Kieron Pollard were seen vacating a chair for the now Mumbai captain. However, we’re seeing poor behaviour from Hardik with everyone, including when he forced Rohit Sharma to field on the boundary in their first game of IPL 2024.

Considering every franchise looks towards the future, they’re likely to back the youngsters in Pandya, Kishan, and group. Reports even suggest that the owners (Ambani family) are already backing Pandya. This could likely mean it’s the last year for the former captain, Rohit Sharma, for Mumbai Indians.
