Just like the ICC manages cricket at a global level, it’s the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) that manages and organises cricket at the Asian level. They do so at both senior and junior setups and today, we’re going to particularly look at the ACC Under-19 Asia Cup which has played a major role in developing the sport in Asia, right from the teenage level.
The ACC U-19 Asia Cup first took place in 1989 and it was a 14-year gap before the second edition could take place. And while there’s been a wide variety in terms of the countries who’ve been allowed to host the U-19 Asia Cup tournaments, the results have mostly been dominated by India U-19. Here on this page, we’re going to dive into history and go through a complete U-19 Asia Cup winners list…
The first edition was the ACC U-19 World Cup 1989 which was held in Bangladesh and it was India U-19 who beat Sri Lanka U-19 in the final by a comfortable margin of 79 runs. From there, India U-19 won the next four editions too, and they’ve got a smashing record in this tournament, winning 8 of the 10 completed ACC U-19 Asia Cup competitions so far, including one being shared with Pakistan in 2012.

While there were considerable gaps between two editions earlier, the tournament now takes place almost every second year, if not every year. The only editions not won by India was in the U-19 Asia Cup 2019 where Afghanistan U-19 beat Pakistan U-19 in the final, and most recently, Bangladesh U-19 beating UAE U-19. Incidentally, there’s not bee a single edition of the ACC U-19 Asia Cup that has been hosted in India till date. The host nations of this tournament in chronological order include Bangladesh, Pakistan, Malaysia, UAE, and Sri Lanka. Typically, there are eight participating nations in each edition of the event, and it’s always been hosted in the 50-over format.
Sri Lanka and Bangladesh have been regular members of the ACC U-19 Asia Cup over the years but they’re yet to lift the trophy in this competition. *In the initial years, a Man of the Match wasn’t awarded so we have mentioned the top performers in the final of those editions. As time passed however and records were being maintained, a player of the match was always awarded in competition games as well as the finals.
With every edition, the competition has been growing as well, with Japan U-19 making their debut in the tournament in the 2023 ACC U-19 Asia Cup. They actually had a good season too, and we hope to see similar success stories and maybe more participating nations in future editions of the Under-19 Asia Cup.
