Unbeaten, unflawed, unblemished, undefeated… Call it what you want, but we hope you know what we mean! It’s the second week of October and we’re here to report the fourth Caribbean Premier League (CPL) title for the Trinbago Knight Riders who were just crowned champions after they got past St Lucia Zouks in the CPL 2020 final!
It was a flawless season for Trinbago as they topped the CPL 2020 points table, winning 10 out of 10 games and then completing a 11th easy win in the semi-final followed by an 8-wicket victory in the CPL 2020 final as well, completing 12 consecutive victories for the franchise this season. They elected to field in the final, restricted Zouks to 154 and got past the line in 18.1 overs!
It was a little spot of bother for TKR when they lost their openers early and they were only at 59/2 at the 10-over stage. Lendl Simmons and Darren Bravo were at the crease at this point of time and to be honest, they made it look much easier than it was. It was a spirited performance by the Zouks who reached their first Hero CPL final but sadly, they weren’t good enough on the day!

The required rate was 10+ when they needed 41 runs in the last 4 overs but they made easy work of it when a six-hitting party began among the two. Both decided to clear the ropes with ease and they got there with 11 balls to spare. After a mediocre season, Simmons got to 84(49)* and also became the highest scorer in CPL history in the bargain. Darren Bravo hit 58(47)* and among them, they hit 10 sixes in the 130+ run partnership!
It was Baz McCullum who was signed as TKR coach and what a debut it was for him, getting his first T20 title as coach and he was a happy man as well, as the franchise registered their 4th CPL title and the dominance will go into the CPL 2021 season where they will look at keeping this streak alive…
