Due to geo-political tensions in the region, not many cricketers have emerged to the highest level from the state of Jammu and Kashmir. However, the Indian Premier League (IPL) has turned out to be a good platform for cricketers from that state, some of them coming to light in the ongoing IPL 2021 season. Currently, two J&K cricketers are playing in the league, and both are in the Sunrisers Hyderabad team.
One of them is Abdul Samad who has been a part of the SRH playing eleven in almost every game so far. On the other hand is a young pacer called Umran Malik who joined the squad recently and he was lucky enough to make his debut in IPL 2021 Match 49, where SRH faced off against the Kolkata Knight Riders in Dubai.

The 21-year old was drafted into the SRH squad as a last-minute replacement for T Natarajan who tested positive for Covid-19 last month, and was super impressive on his IPL debut last night. In fact, social media went berserk as he became the only Indian pacer to clock 150+ kmph in the tournament. He clocked this pace in just his first over in his IPL career as well!
He wasn’t lucky enough to get a wicket on his IPL debut but he ended with 0/27 in his four overs and looked pretty disciplined as well, apart for a couple of wides down the leg-side while bowling to left-hander Nitish Rana. He surely made the KKR batsmen uncomfortable and it’s a great sight for Indian cricket as we have not seen many bowl at this speed over the years and even decades.
