Umesh Bags 10-fer; Jadeja Scores Maiden Century

India whitewashed West Indies in the recently concluded two-match Test series and it was a clean performance from Team India in all the three departments. Let us revisit the performances from Indian bowlers who featured in both these Test matches. During the Test series, Jadeja scored his maiden Test century in Rajkot while pacer Umesh Yadav shone with a 10-fer in the Hyderabad Test match.

Umesh Yadav

Matches – 2, Wickets – 11, Best Bowling – 6/88, Bowling Average: 15.36

Despite featuring in just one Test match in the England tour, Umesh Yadav proved his worth with the red ball in the Test series against West Indies. Though he picked up just a wicket in the first Test match in Rajkot, he made a brilliant comeback in the second Test match to register career-best bowling figures in this format of the game.

His 6-fer in the first innings of the second Test and 10-fer in the in the second Test match are his career best bowling figures in an innings and in a Test match respectively. After such a spell bounding performance in Hyderabad, Umesh became only the third Indian pacer after Kapil Dev and Javagal Srinath to pick up a 10-fer in a Test match played in India.

Kuldeep Yadav:

Matches – 2, Wickets – 10, Best Bowling – 5/57, Bowling Average – 24.90

Kuldeep Yadav dished up too many full tosses in the 1st innings of the first Test match, but he corrected his length in the 2nd innings of the same Test match to bag a 5-wicket haul. This brilliant spell helped India bowl out West Indies for just 196 runs in the second innings in Rajkot to take a huge victory by a margin of an innings and 272 runs.

Ravichandran Ashwin:

Matches – 2, Wickets – 9, Best Bowling – 4/37, Bowling Average: 20.11

Indian ace spinner Ravichandran Ashwin had a quiet series as he failed to take center stage with the ball in the Indian conditions. He picked up 4 wickets in the 1st innings of the first Test match and played a supporting role in the remaining three innings. Understandably, Ashwin entered this series against West Indies just after recovering from injury that he sustained in the England tour.

Ravindra Jadeja:

Matches – 2, Wickets – 7, Best Bowling – 4/57, Bowling Average – 19.71

Not just with the ball, Ravindra Jadeja also put his batting skills to display with his maiden century in the first Test match played at his home ground – Rajkot. He played a crucial role in the series having scored runs with the bat and picked up wickets at crucial intervals to maintain pressure on the West Indian batsmen.
