The Under-19 Cricket World Cup has been around since the first season way back in 1988, and it’s a stepping stone for youngsters looking to shine at the junior level. Many of the performers in this competition have gone on to represent their national sides over time and it goes to show how vital the U19 CWC is for players as well as viewers across the globe.

Headlining the U19 CWC top wickets list is Zimbabwe’s Wesley Madhevere who has not played one or two, but three U19 World Cups, allowing him to pick up 28 wickets in his 18 matches in the competition, including a best of 5/24. Nine out of the ten names on this U19 CWC top wicket-takers list are those who have played more than one edition of the competition. The only one that stands out is Bangladesh’s Enamul Haque Jnr who picked up 22 wickets in a single edition in 2004, including two 4-fers and one 5-fer, ending with the best bowling average on this list – 10.18!

The best bowling figures on this top wicket-takers list came from the hands of Nepal U19’s Rahul Vishwakarma who played three editions of the U19 CWC. He bagged 6/3 in 6.2 overs, going at an economy rate of less than 1 run per over, including 4 maidens in that spell against PNG U19 in August 2012 in Brisbane. Overall, it stood as the 5th best bowling returns in the U19 CWC history.
Few players to have narrowly missed out on this list include Tim Southee (22 wickets), Aftab Alam (21 wickets), and Zia-ul-Haq (20 wickets). As the tournament increases in terms of the number of participating nations and the number of games per team also grows, we can expect more names to replace some from this U19 CWC most wickets list.
