Top Wicket-Takers in The Hundred History (Men’s)

We’ve all heard of Test cricket, 50-over cricket and even 20-over cricket in more recent years. However, not many of us expected to go away from the traditional 6-ball over format and try out something completely new like The Hundred. An initiative by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), The Hundred hosted the men’s and women’s inaugural tournaments in 2021, and it was a grand success indeed.

It’s a different game altogether, with varying rules for batsmen as well as bowlers. The bowling side has to bowl only 100 deliveries per innings, divided into sets of 5 balls each. Bowlers can bowl a set of 5 or can extend up to a maximum of 10 consecutive deliveries, with an innings maximum of 20 deliveries that a bowler can deliver. Today, we’re listing down the top bowlers in The Hundred (Men’s) history…

Top men’s bowlers in The Hundred

So far, we’ve had only one completed season of The Hundred (last updated as of 25th July 2022), so it’s likely that our list of top men’s bowlers in The Hundred change very soon. However, we’ve listed down the top five bowlers of the first season (men’s) and it’s great to see bowlers from four different countries among the top five names. See our complete list here:

5) Benny Howell

Here’s someone with experience in playing franchise leagues across the world like Australia, Bangladesh, Pakistan, England, India, and others. He brought all his experience to The Hundred (Men’s) and picked 11 wickets in 9 games, with a best of 2/12 and an economy rate of only 7.20, representing Birmingham Phoenix. He also contributed several times with the bat for his franchise side. Also with 11 wickets, Jake Lintott narrowly missed making this list.

4) Rashid Khan

Is there any T20 or franchise league across the world where this spin wizard’s name won’t pop up?! We’re talking about Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan who also has experience in all franchise leagues across the planet and here, he got 12 wickets in 9 games and he happened to even get a maiden through in the inaugural season. He gave runs at an economy rate of slightly over 8 runs per over and had a best outing of 3/16 in that tournament, representing Trent Rockets.

3) Adil Rashid

Turns out, the Afghani isn’t the only Rashid or even the only leg-spinner in the list of top wickets. We have England’s Adil Rashid who is easily one of the most sought-after white ball bowlers right now. He only got 7 games in this tournament bu managed 12 wickets in those outings, playing for the Northern Superchargers. He picked up a best of 3/13 in the first edition of The Hundred Men’s and went at 7.68 runs per over!

2) Marchant de Lange

South African pacer Marchant de Lange with plenty of league experience but not much internationally, showed his prowess in The Hundred. He was one of only two bowlers (other being Imran Tahir) to get a 5-fer in this tournament, with a best of 5/20. He also picked up 12 wickets in his 7 games here but had a better bowling average than Adil Rashid. Overall, he went at below 8 runs per over and Trent Rockets would’ve enjoyed having him in their squad.

1) Adam Milne

Another genuine pacer in this list and it’s great to see New Zealand’s Adam Milne here because we don’t see the Kiwis making top of many global franchise league lists very often. While he’s struggled with injuries through most of his career, he stayed fit for the Birmingham Phoenix and picked up 12 wickets in 8 games at an unbelievable bowling average of 10.75, including the best economy rate on this list of just 5.73. He had a best bowling outing of 3/15 here!
