T20 cricket has always been known as a batsman’s game but in this shortest format, we’ve seen plenty of good bowlers too. Today, we’re going to talk about some of the best bowlers over the years at the England T20 Blast, which started in 2003 and is today the country’s premier T20 competition, happening once a year. Popular all across the world today, the competition surely has a very rich history!
T20 Blast most wickets list
Most players have gotten famous because of their batting abilities and while we’ve got a list of the T20 Blast top run scorers, we want to concentrate on the bowlers here on this page. Danny Briggs may have joined the competition many years after everyone else but he sits pretty on top of this T20 Blast top wicket takers list, in the 2022 season becoming the first player to get 200+ wickets in this competition’s history.
We at Read Scoops are maintaining a T20 Blast top wicket-takers list, updated as of 8th May 2023, a few weeks before the start of the 2023 Vitality T20 Blast in England. While most are still playing, a name or two on the list are no longer active in professional cricket, but still manage to hold his place here (like Azhar Mahmood, Yasir Arafat, Harry Gurney). See our complete T20 Blast top wicket-takers list below:

David Payne | 2010-2022 | 145 (111) | 5/24 | Gloucestershire |
Being a tournament that never got an official window from the International Cricket Council (ICC), you’ll find that most of the players on this list are Englishmen, expect for Yasir Arafat and Azhar Mahmood, the latter having shifted to England to play the last few years of his career. And two players on the T20 Blast top wicket-takers list are also on the top run scorers list including Ravi Bopara and Samit Patel.
Arafat is the only player on this list to have played for six different teams in the T20 Blast – Hampshire, Kent, Lancashire, Somerset, Surrey, Sussex – and he also holds the record for the most number of 4-fers in the competition with seven 4-fers to his name. Tom Smith holds the record for the most 5-wicket hauls, having picked as many as three 5-fers so far in his T20 Blast career.

Another person who hasn’t been around for too long as compared to others on this list is David Payne who has played the least number of games as compared to the rest on the list. Yet, he’s been climbing quickly, with 18 wickets in only 9 matches in the 2022 T20 Blast season. He also has the best strike rate from everyone else, picking up a wicket every 15.51 balls in this competition.
Tim Bresnan, Benny Howell, and Jeetan Patel narrowly missed out on featuring in the top 10 most wickets list of the T20 Blast, with 144, 142, and 141 wickets respectively. With quite a few of the top bowlers in this tournament coming to the end of their careers (some already retired), we expect to see a few changes in this T20 Blast most wickets list in the years to come.
