Starting in 2021, England Cricket introduced to the world a new format of cricket where each team played only 100 balls and bowlers ran in to bowl in sets of 5, up to a maximum of 10 deliveries per set. The Hundred is what it was called and after that first successful season, ECB only decided to make it bigger and better in seasons to come.
The game was much different than what we’ve been used to in cricket over the decades, for both batsmen as well as bowlers. Batsmen don’t need to change sides every 5 balls, but at the end of every 10-ball set. Off the total of 100 balls per innings, 25 of them will be a powerplay. In this new variety of cricket, we’ve listed down the top run scorers in the history of The Hundred (Men’s)…
Top men’s run scorers in The Hundred
The men’s and women’s tournaments take place simultaneously each year and both have been equally entertaining. We’ve put up a list of the top bowlers in The Hundred (men’s) in the past. Since it’s considered a batsman’s game more often than not, here we’ve also listed down the top run scorers in the history of The Hundred men’s competition, updated as of 25th July 2022. Check out our complete list here:
5) Glenn Phillips
The only non-English player in the list, this New Zealand wicket-keeper batsman scored 214 runs in 8 games, including two fifties and a highest score of 80 in an innings. Playing for Welsh Fire, Glenn Phillips is a useful addition to any franchise side because he’s started bowling part-time as well. Here, he narrowly edged out England’s Dawid Malan on this list who also scored 214 runs but with a much lower batting average.
4) Moeen Ali
This all-rounder was among the best players in the tournament because he took wickets and also is fourth on the list of top men’s run scorers in The Hundred. He scored 225 runs in just 7 games in this tournament including one fifty and a best of 59 runs. Playing for Birmingham Phoenix in the competition, Ali has a batting strike rate of 148+ which is second to only Liam Livingstone on this list of top run scorers in the league.

3) James Vince
Easily one of the top domestic run scorers in England cricket, James Vince is always among the runs in any domestic competition, including the English T20 Blast. Playing for Southern Brave in The Hundred (Men), he scored 229 runs in 10 games with two fifties and a top score of 60 runs. He has the lowest strike rate on this list (129) but he’s got the second most number of fours under his belt, with his 26 boundaries only second to Ben Duckett’s 28.
2) Ben Duckett
Talking about Ben Duckett, here’s another English cricketer to have a great record in The Hundred. The second left-hander in this list, Duckett has 232 runs in 8 games including two fifties and a best score of 65 runs. As we mentioned above, he’s got the most number of boundaries in The Hundred, but also is less of a risk taker as he has the least number of sixes on this list (only 3) as compared to the top run scorer’s 27 sixes.
1) Liam Livingstone
The man of the moment, Liam Livingstone is easily one of the most destructive and dangerous short format cricketers in the world right now. He has 348 runs in 9 games in The Hundred with three unbeaten innings, taking him way above the rest in terms of runs as well as batting average (58). More than 70% of his runs in this tournament have come in boundaries, being only one of two players to have three fifties in this tournament, including a top score of 92* and strike rate of 178+.
Liam Livingstone ends 'The Hundred' with 348 runs, 178.46 Strike Rate and 58 average. The leading run scorer of the inaugural edition, he also smashed the most sixes with 27. He's going to be a blockbuster in the IPL.
