Organised by Northern Territory Cricket and sanctioned by Cricket Australia (CA), a new T20 series was announced in 2022 to make up for the lack of high-profile cricketing action in Australia’s Northern Territory. The competition was named Top End T20 Series and since 2022, it has been taking place annually, quite successfully.
Each year, it’s played before Big Bash League which is the primary T20 franchise league of the country. It allows players to prepare for the BBL season, so it’s also known as the pre-season BBL tournament. On this page on Read Scoops, we’ve compiled a complete and in-depth Top End T20 Series winners list.
There have been varying formats and teams participating but as of the 2024 Top End T20 Series, there were 9 teams playing a total of 30 games in the season. Papua New Guinea and Cricket Australia XI are the two defunct teams in the competition, while Bangladesh and Pakistan are other national teams that have been invited to participate.

Only 5 teams participated in the first edition of the Top End T20 Series, and the now defunct Cricket Australia XI won that inaugural season in 2022. So far, three successful editions of the competition have concluded and in all three of them, the team batting first in the final have gone on to win the trophy. Adelaide Strikers Academy won the 2024 Top End T20 Series and no team is yet to have won multiple titles in this competition; considering its short history thus far, this is likely to change over time.
Because these are smaller tournaments, there’s not heavy coverage across the world and because of that, we’re not aware of the players who were adjudged the Man of the Match in the final of the first couple of editions. On the other hand, Liam Scott put on a good all-round performance to win the MOM award in the 2024 final, getting 30 runs and a couple of wickets too.
