We always refer to cricket as a gentleman’s game but more often than not, we find things getting heated up and spiralling out of control. We saw one such incident in yesterday’s Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) domestic T20 game. It was the first game of the TNPL 2022 season and tempers seem to be flaring right from the first game itself.
The person in question was Narayan Jagadeesan who expressed his displeasure to his opponents and to the rest of the world watching after he was dismissed in TNPL 2022 Match 1. The wicket-keeper batsman represents Chepauk Super Gillies and has been one of the top batsman in TNPL history, and was tasked with casing 185 against Nellai Royal Kings yesterday.
N Jagadeesan shows middle finger in TNPL 2022
It was obviously a high pressure situation as it’s the first game of the new series and everyone’s looking to impress. Jagadeesan opens the batting for CSG and was enjoying a good partnership with captain Kaushik Gandhi at the time when he was dismissed in the most unfortunate manner possible, in the 4th over of the chase.
Jagadeesan was batting on 25(15) and the runs were flowing from his bat with the score at 35/0. Baba Aparajith ran in to bowl what should’ve been the fourth ball of the over but he changed his mind and decided to get Jagadeesan out MANKADED. It may be the least sporting way of getting someone out in cricket but it’s in the rules of the game and he has every right to do so.

Jagadeesan looked at the umpire for some help but he was given out and he had to walk away. However, he decided to express his unhappiness in a way that he shouldn’t have, as he showed the middle finger and flipped off the bowler Aparajith. Overall, he did it at least three times while walking back to the dugout, including once to the crowd as well.
We understand that Jagadeesan would’ve been really annoyed to get out in that fashion but reacting the way he did isn’t going to get him anywhere. In fact, he’s sure to get into some disciplinary trouble later. You wouldn’t expect such behaviour from one of the leading players in the state, and someone who has bagged IPL contracts as well.
Being a leading cricketer from the state, a lot of young cricketers look up to him and that’s not something he should be doing. Twitter erupted when a video of the incident went viral and some fans even told him to stop playing cricket if he can’t accept the basic rules of the game. We can’t help but agree!
