List of Every Tied Match in ICC T20 World Cup History

Cricket is no fun if it’s going to be one-sided. That’s why, the best games ever played are the ones that go down to the wire, and bring out all the ups and downs as possible. We’re here to talk about the tightest of matches in the ICC T20 World Cup history, in particular those who couldn’t produce a result in normal time.

Which T20 World Cup matches have ended in a tie?

When we talk about normal time in T20 Cricket, we’re referring to the complete quota of 40 overs or until either or both sides have been bowled out; in short, both sides have finished their innings. When that happens, it’s declared as a tied match and we’re going to discuss every tied match in the history of the ICC T20 World Cup from start in 2007, till date.

List of Every Tied Match in ICC T20 World Cup History

The first tie in the history of the ICC T20 World Cup was witnessed between India and Pakistan in the 2007 T20 World Cup taking place in South Africa. At the time, the ICC introduced a new rule where tied matches would have a ‘Bowl Out’ to decided a winner, and India triumphed over Pakistan 3-0 there, which was the only bowlout in T20 World Cup history.

From then on, the ‘Super Over’ concept was introduced in limited over cricket where all tied games would be decided through a single over of batting for both sides. See below for our complete ICC T20 World Cup all tied games list, last updated 9th June 2024, during the 2024 T20 World Cup where two more games were tied during the group stages:

*The India vs Pakistan game was the only instance in a T20 World Cup where a Bowl Out was played. Post that, they were all Super Overs. There were two super overs in the Super 8’s stage of the 2012 T20 World Cup and then, it took another 12 years before another Super Over took place in this competition.

That was between Oman and Namibia and it was only a few days later, that USA and Pakistan found themselves participating in a Super Over due to a tied match in the ICC T20 World Cup. The shortest format always produces thrilling results and that’s why we feel that there will be many more such tied games in the T20 WC over time.
