Every cricket fan in India and across the world knows the surname Kohli. However, today we’re not going to talk about Virat but his U-19 World Cup winning teammate, Taruwar Kohli. Together, the two led India to an U-19 victory in Malaysia in 2008 and since then, both have led very different career paths.
Taruwar Kohli represented Rajasthan Royals and Kings XI Punjab in the Indian Premier League over the years, while later moving to play for Mizoram in the domestic circuit. He announced his retirement in Feb 2024 and since then, he’s been passing on all his cricketing knowledge on his YouTube channel called ‘Find a Way With Taruwar Kohli‘.
Taruwar Kohli teaches backlift technique
We often see Taruwar posting videos of interviews with leading cricketers, while at times he’ll dive into batting techniques, which can assists thousands of youngsters looking at getting into the game as a profession. One of his most recent videos was one where he ran us through how to adopt the perfect batting backlift technique.
While there are many different high and low backlift techniques we’ve seen in international cricket, Taruwar runs us through the ideal technique that a beginner should look at learning. “For a right hander, top hand near your belly button and bottom hand near your right pocket,” says Taruwar on the ideal stance before leaning about the backlift.

He even went on to give examples of how to swing your bat, the way you cradle a baby in your arms. This means, you have to ensure it’s close to your body and not far away; it needs to be in your control at all times.
