For those who don’t know, a SUPER OVER in cricket is when a limited overs match ends up being a tie. When the full match is not enough to decided a winner, a single over is required to decide the outcome of the match. And on this page, we’ll be taking a look at the Lanka Premier League (LPL) super overs that have taken place from inception of the league till date.
How many Super Overs have been in Lanka Premier League?
The first Lanka Premier League tied match was witnessed in the very first game in the competition’s history, way back in LPL 2020. The LPL opening night was a massive success as Kandy Tuskers vs Colombo Kings ended in a tie. Since then, there have been a total of three LPL super overs, this page last updated 14th July 2024.
That first LPL super over saw both teams scoring 219 in their 20 overs each, before Colombo scored 16 runs in their super over. Kandy then ended up short by 4 runs. The next time was three years later in a Galle vs Dambulla fixture where both teams ended on 180 after their respective overs, and a target of 10 was chased down easily in that LPL 2023 Super Over.

The third Lanka Premier League super over came in LPL 2024 and once again, it was Galle vs Dambulla in action, with the only difference being a chance in the franchise name for both teams. Galle now has a perfect 100% record in Super Overs in the Lanka Premier League, winning two of their two tied games in the competition. In two of the three cases of tied games in the LPL T20, the team batting second in the Super Over has gone on to emerge as winners. In the LPL 2024 super over, Maheesh Theekshana bowled and gave away only 6 runs for Galle Marvels. See below:
