The fifth and final ODI between India and West Indies in Thiruvananthapuram was meant to be a day-night affair on Thursday (Nov 01). However, courtesy an awful show with the bat from Windies, the match got completed even without the sun going down! India thrashed West Indies by a margin of 9 wickets to win the 5th ODI as well as the 5-match series 3-1. The 2nd ODI of the series in Vizag resulted in a tie.
Here are some of the statistical highlights of the fifth ODI between India and West Indies:
104 – West Indies team total in the fifth ODI against India. Only three of their batsmen in this game reached to double figures with Jason Holder’s 25 being the highest. This is the lowest team total for West Indies in ODIs against India. Previous lowest was 121 all out in Port of Spain in the year 1997.
211 – The margin (by deliveries remaining in the innings) by which India defeated West Indies in the fifth ODI in Thiruvananthapuram. This is their second best win in this format of the game after the victory against Kenya by 231 deliveries remaining in Bloemfontein in the year 2001.
99 – The wicket of Kieran Powell in the fifth ODI is the 99th wicket for Indian pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar in this format of the game. He bowled just four overs in the fifth ODI in which he conceded 11 runs and picked up a wicket. Bhuvi now has to wait till January next year to join the 100-wicket club in ODIs!

This is the worst batting average for him in a bilateral ODI series with five or more matches in it. His previous worst in a 5+ match bilateral ODI series was 13.60 against Australia in the year 2012.
2011 – Number of runs for Marlon Samuels in ODIs played in Asia. He becomes the seventh West Indian after Brian Lara (3070 runs), Richie Richardson (2589), Shivnarine Chanderpaul (2583), Chris Gayle (2289), Carl Hooper (2236) and Desmond Haynes (2098) to score 2000+ ODI runs in Asia.
38 – This is the highest score for Shikhar Dhawan in this five ODI match series against West Indies – 4, 29,35, 38 and 6 are his scores. This is the first bilateral ODI series (with five or more ODIs) in which Shikhar Dhawan failed to register a half century.
453 – Total number of runs scored by Virat Kohli in the 5-match ODI series against West Indies. 140, 157*, 107, 16 & 33* are his scores in the five ODIs. Virat’s 453 in this series is the third-most scored by a batsman in a 5-match ODI series. Fakhar Zaman of Pakistan tops the list with 515 runs against Zimbabwe in 2018 and Hamilton Masakadza of Zimbabwe is at the second in this list with 467 runs against Kenya in 2009.
8 – The 3-1 series victory for West Indies is the 8th consecutive bilateral ODI series victory for India against them. Also, this is India’s joint highest winning streak against any opponent in this format of the game. India also have an 8 consecutive bilateral ODI series wins against Sri Lanka.
