A new tournament popped up recently called the Atlanta Open 2022 and it was great for a number of reasons, especially because it was a big boost to cricket in America. Several international cricketers and a few retired stars were also a part of the action which added to the glamour of the tournament, which recently concluded on 9th October 2022.
It was Atlanta Lightning vs Stallions X in the Atlanta Open 2022 final and after some fireworks earlier in the tournament (including a Rahkeem Cornwall double century), the final turned out to be a rather low scoring affair, where the latter ended up champions. Stallions X won in the final over with a 4-wicket victory margin.

Recently having retired from Indian cricket to give himself a chance to play other leagues like this one, Unmukt Chand was the top scorer with the bat for Lightning as they batted first and put up 155/8 in their 20 overs. Chand opened the batting and almost carried his bat through the innings, scoring 66(55) before getting run out.
It was a progression of wickets after him and towards the latter end of the innings, Ashley Nurse from West Indies managed to smash a few quick runs in his 19(18), recently completing a stint in India at the 2022 Legends League Cricket T20 series. With the ball, Eshan Adil and Ravi Bopara picked up 2 wickets each, the latter also ending as the top wicket-taker of the tournament with 15 scalps in 6 games.

It was always going to be an easy chase considering the kind of scores we’ve seen in this tournament, but Stallions made a little bit of heavy weather of it. Tajinder Singh scored 44(24) at the top while later in the innings, it was the Nkrumah Bonner who turned out to be the match-winner as he hit 64(42) and got dismissed just before getting his team over the line.
Eventually, they completed the chase with 5 balls and 4 wickets to spare, thus winning the inaugural 2022 Atlanta Open T20. USA captain Saurabh Netravalkar did well with the ball with 2/31 but it wasn’t enough on the day as Stallions X lifted the trophy and Bonner was awarded the Man of the Match for his innings with the bat.
