We’ve seen quite a few freak injuries and incidents in sporting events and today, we saw another similar thing happen in the 3rd ODI between India and Sri Lanka. India was batting first at this game in Thiruvananthapuram and it was a good Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer partnership underway when this incident took place.
Kohli was on strike and he played a pull shot to the deep square leg boundary, with two Sri Lankan players converging to stop the four. They had the ball covered but Ashen Bandara and Jeffrey Vandersay had their eyes on the ball and not on each other, which led to the both of them colliding on the field, while the ball also rolled away for a boundary…
Ashen Bandara, Jeffrey Vandersay collide on field
Kohli went on to move to 99* with that boundary due to the midfield and the very next ball, he went on to score his 46th ODI century. Initially when the collision happened, Bandara and Vandersay were seen standing for a while but soon later, they were back down and both of them were taken off the field on stretchers, which can never be good for any sportsman.
Immediately, the Sri Lankans managed to get concussion substitutes on the field and we at Read Scoops hope that the both of them are in good health and there’s nothing serious from this collision. Coming to the game, India already leads the series 2-0 and at the time of typing this, they were at 313/2 in 44 overs, with Kohli past a century and Iyer on 36* as well.

India has dominated the ODI series after a much closer T20I series an this onslaught with the bat would’ve eradicated any chances of Sri Lanka ending this ODI series on a high as well. While Bandara would contribute with the bat, Jeffrey Vandersay bowled 7 overs in the day and was taken for 59 runs with no wickets to his name.
After a long break, the former Indian captain was seen chatting with Sri Lankan captain Dasun Shanaka and asking him what the status was of the two players involved in the on-field accident. It shows that Kohli is not just respected for his talent but also for his humanity and respect for all his opponents.
