At some point of time, we all loved S Sreesanth because of the fire he had and the aggression against some of the most intimidating international batsmen. He had an attitude that Indian pacers lacked at the time and he had a growing fan base until he was involved in a spot-fixing controversy which cut short his international as well as domestic career.
Having completed his time out and suspension, the former Team India pacer has been seen in a couple of leagues in the last few months, the most recent of them being the Legends League Cricket 2022 which is playing out its second edition as we speak. And yesterday was a great outing for Sreesanth as he picked up his best figures ever since making his comeback in 2021.
Sreesanth picks 3/36 in LLC Season 2
In a Bhilwara Kings vs Gujarat Giants contest at Cuttack last night, the 39-year old was on fire as he picked up a 3-fer and he would’ve loved every moment of it. Representing Bhilwara in this tournament, he picked up 1/31 in his first game here and was wicketless in the Legends exhibition game prior to that in September 2022 itself.
But last night was a great display of pace bowling as the veteran showed he still has it in him. He picked up the wickets of former West Indies batsman Lendl Simmons, Zimbabwe’s Elton Chigumbura, and Sri Lanka’s Thisara Perera. He’ll be pleased about the fact that all of these are recently retired cricketers, still not far away from prime fitness.

Earlier in the game, Bhilwara Kings put up 222-4 in their 20 overs thanks to fifties from William Porterfield and More van Wyk, and then the bowlers had to defend this target. Sreesanth’s three wickets put them in the driver’s seat in the first ten overs of the chase itself, ending with figures of 3/36 in his four overs, being among the most expensive but also picking up crucial wickets.
And that’s the kind of bowler Sreesanth has always been. Plenty of pace and sometimes expensive, but he knows how to get the wickets. Yesterday was only Match 9 of LLC Season 2 and we’re likely to see a lot more of this bowler in the rest of the tournament, so let’s see what else he has to offer. Jesal Karia and Fidel Edwards also picked up 2 wickets each which helped Kings get over the line but it was Porterfield’s innings with the bat which set it up for them, so he was rightly presented with the Man of the Match award for that knock.
