While everyone’s got their eyes on the Indian Premier League, the 2023 T20 Blast has begun in England which is another super exciting competition. Just a few games into the tournament and we witnessed the first individual century of the tournament, where Surrey took on Kent at the Kennington Oval in London.
Australian bowling all-rounder Sean Abbott was the first to get to the 3-figure mark in this season, smashing the joint fastest century in the tournament’s history. He took Surrey to a commanding position of 223/5 in 20 overs after initially being reduced to a poor score of 94/5, also putting up a 34-ball century in the process.

While Abbott is mostly known for his bowling abilities and is one of the best bowlers in the history of the Big Bash League in Australia, he’s often put up match-winning knocks with the bat there too. Now, he’s one of the few overseas players in the Surrey squad and he’s proven his worth right at the start of the season, with this blitzkrieg century.
Andrew Symonds was the other player who hit a 34-ball ton in the Vitality Blast many years ago, and coincidentally both of these are Australian players. Abbott ended with 110(41)* after this amazing knock and he won’t be forgetting this innings anytime soon, as he took Surrey from a losing to a winning spot in a matter of a few overs.

His innings included four boundaries and as many as 11 sixes on the night and this was at a strike rate of 268+. He was assisted by Jordan Clark who scored 29(17)* towards the end of the innings, to help them get to 220+. And he got to the century in style too, with a six straight down the ground. Check out the moment of getting to his first T20 Blast century:

He ripped into some of the bowlers in particular with George Linde going for 1/50 in his 4 overs while Kane Richardson was also taken for 1/53 in his 4 overs. At the time of writing this, Kent was 43/0 in their first 3 overs which means it’s sure to be a super interesting chase. Take a look at another one of his big sixes in this Sean Abbott T20 century:

The crowd was surely entertained at the Kennington Oval and maybe, Abbott may be able to contribute with the ball as well for Surrey in this game. For similar updates from Vitality Blast 2023 and other cricketing news from around the world, stay tuned to ReadScoops.com…
