A few days back, England and Rajasthan Royals cricketer (and arguably one of the best all-rounders in the game) Ben Stokes spoke about his harrowing quarantine experience in UAE before being allowed to play. He also mentioned how he wouldn’t wish this on even his worst enemy, and while saying so, he didn’t forget to take a name, that of former West Indies cricketer Marlon Samuels.
Now if you know Samuels, you know he’s not one to stand down to a fight as we’ve seen plenty of times in his career. In fact, Stokes and Samuels clashed once in the 2016 T20 World Cup finals as well, where the former ended on the losing side of the contest. Once Samuels read about this, he went on an expletive-laden rant on social media, and may have even taken it a level higher than required.
Stokes begins it
“I posted a few Instagram stories and some of the England boys were messaging me asking what it’s like and I was saying it wasn’t the most enjoyable thing you ever have to do, I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy. I text my brother saying the same thing, and my brother asked: ‘You wouldn’t even do that to Marlon Samuels?’ I said ‘no, it’s that bad’ – that’s how tough it was,” said Stokes in an IPL podcast recently.

Samuels replies
Now while that was clearly meant to be a joke and a little bit of light banter, Samuels didn’t see the funny side of it. “no white boy could diss me in the sports and no get back diss look at this b*tch still thinking about me give me 14 days with you wife turn har into Jamaican in 14 seconds mate none of yall knows me that simply means it’s my f***ing superior skin tone yall hate fuck you,” he said on an Instagram story.
Samuels wasn’t done there. There was a series of Instagram stories and even posts that followed about Stokes and he even decided to rope in former Australian spin wizard Shane Warne, the latter also clashing once with Samuels in the Big Bash League down under. Samuels put up a bunch of posts about these being the ‘good boys’ of cricket and how they can’t do anything wrong. Warne of course, had to get into the fun:
I’ve just been sent what Samuels has posted re @benstokes38 & I. It’s a very sad situation as he obviously needs serious help-but has no friends at all & not even his ex teammates like him. Just because you were an ordinary cricketer-no need to be an ordinary person. Get help son

His followers saw a bunch of more posts!

Now a lot of people from across the world have criticized Marlon for the way he decided to react to a little joke. He hurled abuses the way of two legends of the game and went on to share old posts of Stokes’ bar brawl which landed him in prison and another one of him mimicking a disabled child. As for Warne, there were quite a few posts about him begging for work and his fake face and much more…
