In October 2021, two new teams were added to the Indian Premier League (IPL) and for the first time ever, we’re set to have 10 teams participating in a single edition of the tournament. We have Lucknow and Ahmedabad as the two new teams and recently, both teams completed their three draft picks each, ahead of the IPL 2022 auction. As for the Lucknow franchise, they’re still awaiting their team name to be announced but they’ve added two Indian and one overseas player to their side including captain, opener and wicket-keeper KL Rahul, leg-spinner from the U-19 side Ravi Bishnoi, and Australian batting all-rounder from the recent 2021 T20 WC winning squad, Marcus Stoinis. Lucknow picks for IPL 2022
1) KL Rahul
Recently bumped up to the position of vice-captain of the Indian cricket team across formats and also having been in sublime form over the last few years of the Indian Premier League, we knew KL Rahul would be one of the hot buys of the IPL 2022 Auction. There were rumours of him joining Lucknow and those turned into confirmed reports as he was signed as captain of this new franchise, along with becoming the joint-highest-paid player in IPL history alongside Virat Kohli.

2) Ravi Bishnoi
India’s leading wicket-taker in the 2020 ICC U-19 World Cup, Ravi Bishnoi quickly rose to fame and got a contract for Punjab Kings in the IPL 2020 Auction as well. He got 24 wickets in his first two seasons in the IPL (23 games) and while these aren’t magnificent stats, he’s one for the future and the Lucknow franchise is investing in one of these younger talents in Indian cricket.
3) Marcus Stoinis
This man doesn’t need much of an introduction. He’s already been a part of the Delhi Capitals, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and the Kings XI Punjab too. But more recently, he was part of the winning Australian squad at the 2021 T20 World Cup, so that’s a huge addition to his cricket CV. A big hitter of the ball, Stoinis has some amazing records in white ball cricket and we expect him to have a big role to play in this side.
Lucknow player salaries
As mentioned above, Rahul went on to become the joint-highest paid cricketer in the history of the league as he’s been paid Rs.17 Crore and only Kohli has been paid as much, when he was retained by RCB in the IPL 2018 mega auction. Despite that big buy in the IPL Draft though, they’ve spent only Rs.30.2 Crore and have as much as Rs.59.8 Crore in their purse for the IPL 2022 Auction. See their salary breakup here:
