The first T20I of the 2023 India tour of South Africa was washed out due to rain and then, India suffered a big loss in the second game of the series. Now today, they were in a must-win situation in the 3rd T20I at the New Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg. The visitors put up 201/7 in their 20 overs and they were confident going into the second half.
However, this South Africa vs India T20 game didn’t end without some thrilling moments. One of them came in the 9th over where Ravindra Jadeja was bowling to David Miller, and got him out caught behind the wicket. Jadeja appealed and appealed, but the umpire turned him down, and the Indians couldn’t review it because of a temporary unavailability of the DRS (decision review system).
DRS glitch saves David Miller
It was only a couple of minutes before the caught behind appeal that the commentators informed everyone about the temporary unavailability of the DRS. We’re not sure what the issue was, but that technical glitch cost India a very important wicket. The David Miller dismissal was crucial because he’s been in great form in the last couple of years, and would be the one watch in this chase.

Incidentally, the DRS system was restored just a few moments later, a couple of deliveries after it was really needed. And when the replays were shown on television sets across the world, it was revealed that there was a huuuuge outside edge off the bat of Miller, which was gladly pocketed by the Indian wicket-keeper, Jitesh Sharma.

Everyone was surprised seeing that replay, because India was robbed off a wicket but more importantly, the question was asked about the umpire’s competency as he missed a big knick. Moreover, the question will be asked about why Miller didn’t walk off when he knew he had edged that. Either way, it didn’t make much of a difference as Miller got runs, but India kept taking wickets regularly, trying to level the series 1-1.

Eventually, Miller only managed 35 as South Africa went on to be bowled out for 95 runs and Kuldeep Yadav picked up a T20I career best of 5/17, that too on his birthday night.
