For those who don’t know, the 2021 India tour of England is a few days away from kicking off and cricket fans are excited to see how Team India does here, after their loss in the World Test Championship (WTC) final in England itself. However, earlier today, reports broke out of one member of the Indian Test squad testing positive for coronavirus.
While we thought the news would be wrapped up within the team itself, it was only a few minutes later that it was announced that wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant is the player who tested positive for coronavirus. He has been having a great time in international cricket with game-changing knocks with the bat over the last 12 months or so, but now he won’t be travelling with the team to Durham.
Between 20-22 July 2021, Team India will be playing Durham in a 3-day practice game and Pant will not be travelling with the team there to be a part of the action. He has been in isolation and is asymptomatic at this point of time. “He is in quarantine at an acquaintance’s place and won’t be travelling with the team to Durham on Thursday,” said a team representative about the same.

Pant has been an integral part of the team and if his quarantine goes well and recovers soon, he is likely to make the squad for the 1st Test as well, which kicks off at Trent Bridge on 4th August 2021. The 23-year old was seen attending a Euro 2020 football game last month and was not staying with the team at the hotel, likely affected with the Delta variant of Covid-19 as well.
“Yes, one player has tested positive but he has been in isolation for the last eight days. He was not staying in any hotel with the team, so no other player has been affected. As of now no other player has tested positive. Also you must be aware our secretary Jay Shah has written a letter to all players to maintain protocols,” said BCCI Vice President Rajiv Shukla.
