His international career spanned between 1998-2009 and today, cricket fans across the world will mourn his death.

This morning, we saw hundreds of cricketers across the world posting tribute messages on social media after they learnt of the tragic car accident of the 46-year old cricketer from Queensland. This included a lot of former and current cricketers as well as some of his Australian teammates who shared the dressing room with him over the years.

Symonds played a majority of his international career under the captaincy of Ricky Ponting who now spends his days coaching Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Ponting was also devastated with the news that came in and he took to Twitter to post a heart-warming message for the late Symonds who passed away after succumbing to injuries from his Saturday night accident.

Symonds was known for his aggression and for being the ideal finisher in whatever team he represented. While he did play the longest format of the game, he was better known for his exploits in the white-ball formats. He was also very useful with the ball and was electrifying in the field, executing countless run outs from different parts of the infield.

“If Roy shook your hand you had his word, that’s the sort of bloke he was and that’s why I always wanted him on my team. An extraordinary player and even better human being. Can’t believe he’s gone. Thoughts are with his family at this time,” said Ponting’s tweet on Symonds, also posting a picture with his former teammate.

Ponting and ‘Roy’ as Symonds was affectionately called, played countless partnerships for the country and apart from Ponting, all his teammates are in a state of shock right now. Michael Clarke, Jason Gillespie, and others also quickly took to social media to send across tribute messages to Symonds, while also sending love to his family.

This comes at a time after Australia Cricket was just recovering from the loss of another cricketing legend. It was only in March this year that Shane Warne’s untimely death took place in Thailand, while Rodney Marsh also passed away at a similar time. We at Read Scoops send a love of love and prayers out to Symonds and his family.

He is survived by his wife and his two children. The accident is said to have happened on Saturday night at around 11pm and the rescue team was unable to revive him, being the only occupant of the vehicle. For more updates on this story as well as other sports news from around the world, stay tuned to ReadScoops.com
