Social media often tends to find out the biggest and most glaring errors across the world, and they really tear into those responsible. A recent example was seen where the Pakistan Super League (PSL) found themselves being bashed, after a huge mistake was made by the broadcasters, which didn’t go unnoticed by those watching.
The moment in question took place in PSL 2023 Match 28 where Multan Sultans were taking on Quetta Gladiators at Rawalpindi. Multan Sultans batted first and what followed was the most amazing display of batting (albeit on small grounds), where Multan Sultans recorded the highest ever score in PSL history. And during this first innings, the glaring error was noticed by those watching at home.
21 over match in PSL 2023?
When a team bats first in a limited overs game, the broadcaster usually shows up projected scores, based on the current run rate and further projections based on an increment to those rates in the final few overs. While still in the 9th over, Multan was cruising thanks to a blazing knock from Usman Khan who recorded his first entry into the PSL centuries list, getting there before the 10-over mark.
Multan was 124/0 in 8.1 overs when the projected scores showed up on TV screens across the world once again. At the current run rate of 15.18, they would get to a record total of 304, while further projections showed potential scores in 17 overs, 19 overs, and 21 overs. Thus began a meme fest on social media.

Real story – myth busted
However, we at Read Scoops have been following cricket for many years now and we’d like to inform you that there was absolutely no error on the part of the PSL 2023 team. They weren’t showing 17, 19, and 21 over scores. In fact, they were showing potential targets if the team scored at 17-runs per over, 19-runs per over, and 21-runs per over.
Someone definitely got it wrong on social media and has been having a hearty laugh at PSL 2023, some ever sarcastically saying it’s the best T20 franchise league in the world and that these errors could only happen in Pakistan. While we’d like a hearty laugh ourselves, there’s no reason to be laughing as they showed the right stats and right projections, if players scored at 21 runs over over going forward.
Eventually in that game, Multan Sultans severely dropped their scoring rate and they only managed 262/3 which was still the highest ever total in PSL history. The grounds were batting friendly and Quetta nearly chased down the target as well, finally falling only 9 runs short of the target. The two teams also set a world record for the highest aggregate runs scored in a T20 game – 515 runs.
