While the fittest players play professional cricket for franchise teams and their countries, there’s a new concept of veteran’s cricket which is now gripping audiences across the world. There have been many T20 professional leagues introduced over the last couple of years but more recently, there’s International Masters Cricket (IMC) that has setup professional competitions for veteran players.
The IMC already have Over 40s and Over 50s tournaments in place since 2018 but it was later that they introduced two more age groups in Over 60s and Over 70s as well. While the action is quite competitive, IMC is still picking up pace among viewers and the brand still has to partner with global sponsors / partners in order to take it to a greater audience around the world.
Here on this page, we’re going to concentrate on the Over 60s World Cup and its short history so far. The first ever edition took place with the IMC Over 60s World Cup 2022 and there, it was the Green Shirts in Pakistan Over 60s that emerged victorious, beating New Zealand Over 60s in the all-important finale, by a margin of 7 wickets.

Batting first, New Zealand put up 173/9 and that was always going to be a below par score in a 45-over final. The Green Shirts chased it down thanks to Muhammad Aslam’s 70 and Syed Kazmi’s 71*. Muhammad Pakhali also contributed heavily to the victory, with his 4/19 in 4 overs in a great bowling effort, but Kazmi’s quickfire batting effort took them over the line with as many as 3.2 overs to spare. The title defence began in the second edition of the IMC Over 60s World Cup, scheduled between 18 Feb – 4 Mar 2024, in Chennai, India. There are some unknown players, while quite a few of those who represented their respective national teams back in the day.
As of now, we’re still to ascertain whether this tournament will take place every year, or it will take place once in a few years – quadrennial or biennial.
