A two day event on 12-13 Feb 2022 will see the IPL 2022 Auction take place in style and glamour, with 590 players set to go under the hammer including 370 Indian players. And these include players from different countries, different age groups, different backgrounds and much more. In fact just earlier today, we wrote of how seven players from associate nations made the cut for the IPL 2022 mega auction.
And since the hype is building as we move closer towards the IPL 2022 Auction, we’re going to talk more about some of the players in the list, all set to be auctioned. In this article specifically, we’re going to talk about some of the oldest players in the auction list and in contention to grab a contract for the IPL 2022 season.
IPL 2022 Auction – oldest players
Before we dive into telling you about the oldest players, we’ll also let you know that there are some really young faces here including the 17-year old Noor Ahmad from Afghanistan who is currently just done with the 2022 U-19 World Cup and was a part of the IPL auction last year too. Nagaland’s Khrievitso Kense is 17 years old too, and is the youngest player listed in the IPL 2022 auction.
Now let’s talk about the oldies and we’d like to let you know that one of the leading wicket-takers in the IPL, Amit Mishra, is set to go under the hammer at 39 years of age. He didn’t have much of a participation in the last edition but spinners have a longer career than pacers and we don’t see him going unsold this year either.

One of the most shocking comebacks of all time, S Sreesanth is also 39 years old and this pacer is daring to get another chance at the IPL, which he messed up many years ago because of spot fixing charges. Now cleared of all charges, the former Indian pacer played a few games for Kerala a few months ago and is fit, but we don’t think the BCCI will want players with tainted names back in the IPL!
West Indian pacer Fidel Edwards has done fabulously well to keep up his fitness and is now 40 years old (as of 6th Feb 2022), and is the second oldest international player in the IPL 2022 Auction. While he was away for a while, he made his return to the West Indies national side after several years in 2021, and was also seen bowling very controlled spells in the 2021 Abu Dhabi T10 League.
Now for the oldest player in the IPL 2022 auction, it’s none other than leg-spin sensation Imran Tahir. Last having represented the Chennai Super Kings, Tahir didn’t have a big role to play because Josh Hazlewood was doing great as the overseas bowler. Having played for 50+ franchises, he’s got all the experience and will be 43 years old when IPL 2022 takes place.
Known more for his bowling, he recently even scored a match-winning fifty with the bat for World Giants in the recently concluded 2022 Legends League Cricket T20 series in Muscat!
