The Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas was coloured blue as the MI New York franchise lit up the ground with sixes all across the ground. And what’s better is that it was the most important game, the final of the first edition of the Major League Cricket in the USA. Many question New York captain Nicholas Pooran as he bowled first after winning the toss, and had a few questionable bowling changes as well.
However, it was all smooth sailing once they came out to chase 184, thanks to Pooran smashing the first hundred of the season and of the competition history, getting to the milestone in as little as 40 balls, in the MLC 2023 final against Seattle Orcas. In short, we witnessed one of the finest T20 knocks in recent times.
Nicholas Pooran MLC 2023 century!
MI New York hasn’t had the best opening wicket partnerships in MLC 2023 and the same was seen today as well, as they lost Steven Taylor in the first over and captain Pooran came in with the score at 0/1. From there, he changed the course of the game and hit sixes to every corner, hitting the fastest fifty of the competition, getting there in only 16 balls.
Thanks to his big hitting, MI New York also registered their highest powerplay score of the season, with Pooran hitting Andrew Tye for three sixes in the final over of the fielding restrictions as well. From there, he kept going and went on to get the hundred in just 40 balls, which is sure to be the fastest MLC century for many seasons to come as well.

No one scored more sixes than Pooran in MLC 2023, with 34 maximums to his name, including 13 sixes in the MLC 2023 final. In the 15th over, Indian left-arm spinner Harmeet Singh came on to bowl and he was hit for three consecutive sixes by Pooran, who had his foot on the accelerator even towards the last few overs of the game.
The MI franchise has a record 5 titles in the Indian Premier League and here, they added another one to their trophy cabinet as New York completed an easy win against Seattle, becoming the inaugural Major League Cricket winners. They won off the final ball of the 16th over, where Tye bowled a fabulous yorker but Pooran managed to dig it out somehow. Pooran fell to the floor but his edge meant the ball went down to the boundary, getting four and getting across the line. He ended with 137(55)* and this will go down as one of the best T20 knocks in recent history across the world.
