New Zealand have completed a 5-0 whitewash against Pakistan in the ODI series and their winning streak against Pakistan in ODIs has bulged to 11 at the end of this series. Pakistan came close to beating New Zealand in the final ODI from threatening to post their lowest ODI total in the third ODI.
Here is our report on the whitewash as it happened:
ODI #1: New Zealand beat Pakistan by 61 runs (DLS Method)
This rain curtailed game was all about New Zealand captain Kane Williamson’s hundred which laid the platform to post a 300+ score. Then, their pacers started the damage with the ball making Pakistan lose their first 5 wickets inside 20 overs.
Though rain had the final say on the result, New Zealand were on top all along during this match. There wasn’t any more action due to rain and New Zealand won by 61 runs courtesy the DLS method.
ODI #2: New Zealand beat Pakistan by 8 Wickets (DLS Method)
Half-centuries from Hafeez and their bowlers Shadab Khan and Hasan Ali gave Pakistan a respectable total – 246/9 in their 50 overs. The visitors then did well to pick up the wickets of Munro & Williamson early but rain suspended the match for a while. New Zealand were at 64 for 2 from 14 overs at that stage.
ODI #3: New Zealand beat Pakistan by 183 runs
Pakistan bowlers bowled well against New Zealand restricting them to just 257/10 in 50 overs. Fifties for Taylor and Williamson were the backbone of the Kiwi innings.
Pakistan however, were bowled out for just 74 on the board. They struggled against the swinging new ball, scoring just 9 runs in the first 10 overs and losing 3 wickets. Trent Boult won the Man of the Match for his 5-fer which helped New Zealand win the series 3-0 with 2 more matches to go.
ODI #4: New Zealand beat Pakistan by 5 Wickets
Pakistan recovered well from their collapse in the previous ODI with four of their batsmen scoring half-centuries to get to 262/8 in 50 overs. Kane Williamson bowled 10 overs on the trot conceding just 32 runs while picking up 2 crucial wickets as well.
ODI #5: New Zealand beat Pakistan by 15 runs
New Zealand got a major scare in the final ODI but somehow managed to prevail. Guptill’s hundred and Taylor’s fifty gave them a fighting score as they crawled their way to 271/7 in 50 overs, which proved to be just about enough in the end!
Pakistan got off to the worst possible start, losing five wickets cheaply for just 57 on the board. Haris and Shadab gave them a chance with a century partnership that revived the chase to make a match out of what would have become another collapse. But Pakistan fell 15 runs short in the end, conceding a 5-0 whitewash to New Zealand.
