The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) initiated a new tournament which is the premier T20 franchise league in the country right now. The organising committee inaugurated the competition in 2022 and thus came up the Nepal T20 League. In the first season, 6 regional teams participated and all games were played at the same ground in Kirtipur.
A lot of Asian cricketers were involved in the tournament, a couple of overseas players being made captains of their respective franchises as well. Most of them did well in the first season of the Nepal T20 and quite a few non-Nepal players were among the top run scorers in the 2022/23 Nepal T20 tournament as well. Afghanistan’s Hashmatullah Shahidi was given the task of leading his franchise Far West United and he thrived with the added responsibility of being captain. He ended with 4 fifties in 10 games and a tally of 400 runs in the inaugural Nepal T20 season, finishing at the top but that still wasn’t good enough for his team to progress to the playoffs.
