Today, 6th August 2021, was the 3rd T20 international between Bangladesh and Australia in Dhaka, with the hosts having taken a big lead of 2-0 in the series so far. It was always going to be tough for the visitors on these low and slow pitches, especially with them not having their highest strength team in play right now.
For the 3rd T20I today, Australia made three changes in an attempt to spice things up, which included bringing in Daniel Christian, Nathan Ellis and Ben McDermott for today’s game. The main of these three changes was Nathan Ellis who made his T20 international debut today for Australia and as the main pacer, there would’ve been plenty of expectations from him as well.
Bangladesh batted first and we saw yet another below par score in Dhaka, with the debutant having a wicketless day after 19 overs. He was entrusted to bowl the final over of the game and from there, things were about to change for him. On 19.4, he bagged the wicket of an in-form Mahumudullah who had completed his fifty with a boundary just the ball prior.

With only 2 balls to spare in the innings, we wouldn’t blame Mustafizur Rahman for trying to get a big hit in place, and he launched one out to cow corner on 19.5, which was pocketed by Mitchell Marsh. The final ball of the innings, 19.6, saw Mahedi Hasan getting the strike back and he also got caught on the boundary, which completed a hat-trick for Nathan Ellis on his international debut.
Brett Lee was the first Australian bowler to pick a hat-trick in a T20 international and the next was Ashton Agar, with Ellis now becoming the third Australia to do so. Overall, this is the 17th occasion where a bowler has picked a hat-trick in a T20 international. Hopefully, his hat-trick will help Australia get a victory in this series.
