What a night. What a finish. What drama. Three days between the last game and the IPL 2023 final, and it was a complete success for Chennai Super Kings. They weren’t favourites coming into the IPL 2023 final, especially considering they have a 1-3 losing record to Gujarat Titans in past games in this tournament.
However, they managed to get through thanks to some brilliance from the Men in Yellow and in particular, from Ravindra Jadeja who chased down 10 runs in the last 2 balls of the final over. The chase was reduced to only 15 overs and with CSK needing 171 to win, it was always going to be difficult. But Jaddu brought out some magic to hit two boundaries off the final couple of deliveries of Mohit Sharma.

Eventually, the scoreline will read that CSK wins by 5 wickets but this was a historic final indeed. The final came down to the very last ball and it was also MS Dhoni’s historic 250th IPL game. While there was emotion and elation in everyone involved after the winning boundary was hit, one man in MSD sat in silence after they got over the line.
Ravi Jadeja leapt and punched the air in joy and the rest of the CSK squad ran on to the pitch to celebrate the team’s 5th ever IPL title. However, MSD sat there without any visible expression or emotion. That’s why we call him captain cool and now, the question is whether or not this will be his last ever IPL game, and whether he will announce his retirement soon.

MS Dhoni has done a lot for the game of cricket not just in Indi abut all around the world. His fifth IPL title and the way he celebrated indicated that this will be his final one as well. Everyone likes to move out on a high and there’s nothing better than this for the great wicket-keeper batsman. And this was even more emotional for him as he bagged a golden duck in the IPL 2023 final.
When most needed, MSD smashed one straight to short cover and was caught on the first ball he faced. The stadium went silent but there was still hope, which Jadeja proved to everyone watching. Later however, Dhoni showed some emotion as he lifted Ravindra Jadeja after the latter came running towards him after the victory. See here:

Jadeja ignored everything and ran straight to Dhoni in the dugout, while the entire stadium was chanting his name. Jadeja was later interviewed and he mentioned that this win is dedicated to a very special person in the CSK camp who is MS Dhoni.
