We’re often talking about the biggest milestones and records gained over the years in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Most often than not, we’re talking about runs and sixes and batting records because T20 has usually been titles as a batsman’s game. Today however, we’re talking about a record that could’ve been, but hasn’t!
A number of batsmen have gone on to score thousands of runs in the IPL history with Virat Kohli right on top of the IPL all-time run-scorers list, closing in on 6,000 career IPL runs, as of April 2021. He’s got multiple IPL centuries like many others on the top of that list but we’re going to speak about one player who doesn’t have an IPL century yet!
In fact, we’re going to talk about the one IPL star who has scored the most number of runs without having reached the 3-figure mark in any particular game. We’re speaking about none other than Thala Mahendra Singh Dhoni who is one of India’s most favourite sportsmen and one of the best leaders in modern sport.

In the IPL itself, he has an impeccable record, having led Chennai Super Kings to an IPL title on three consecutive occasions as well. Individually, he’s played more than 200 IPL games and in those, he’s managed to rack up 4,650 runs over the years. In fact, he’s recorded as many as 69 innings without being dismissed, which is more than anyone else in the history of the tournament.
So with these many runs, he’s the highest batsman on this IPL run scorers’ list that is yet to have scored an IPL century. With an average of 40+ and 23 fifties, he’s yet to crossed that magical T20 century mark in the IPL and given he’s aging too, we may never see him get there either. The closest next to him to hold this record is Robin Uthappa who has 4,607 IPL runs without a century!
