Cricket always presents us with its own share of twists and turns and the most heartbreaking of all turns is when we hear of stories like these. Slightly over a decade ago, the world was introduced to Mohammad Amir, a young swing bowler who was turning heads at the age of 16 and 17, taking wickets and breaking records by the day.
However, there always seems to be something that has acted as a barrier in his career, hampering his growth at every stage. Still in his teenage years, Amir’s career came to a screeching halt when he was caught in a match fixing scenario, where he was sentenced to a ban from cricket along with a 5-year jail sentence.
Further to that, he was not given enough of mental and physical rehabilitation post his return to cricket. As soon as he was out of prison, he was drafted into the Pakistan national squad and the world was surprised when he didn’t perform. That’s when he was taken under the guidance of Atiq uz Zaman, who helped him become more mentally prepared, which we spoke about exclusively here.
Today still 28 years old, Amir has shocked the world once again as he went on to reveal mental torture from the cricket board, because of which he wasn’t able to perform up to his potential. Amir cited torture from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) because of his match fixing mistake, for which he was already punished and sentenced for between 2010-2015.
He released a video regarding his retirement from international cricket a couple of hours ago, with reporter Shoaib Jatt. He mentioned torture as the reason for announcing his retirement from the international game while saying that there were only 2 people who always supported him, those being PCB chairman Najam Sethi and former all-rounder Shahid Afridi.

Amir has been in good rhythm in recent times, coming off a successful Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2020 where he bagged 11 wickets in 10 games through the season. No, he isn’t going anywhere in terms of overall cricket. However, we may not be able to see him in the Pakistan jersey again, which is unfortunate. For more updates, stay tuned to ReadScoops.com…!
