Currently being played at various venues in India is the 2022 Legends League Cricket which is in fact the second edition of this unique league for retired professional cricketers. It’s been a really fun and entertaining journey so far as we approach the last stages of this tournament. And while things have been super friendly on the field, it has been competitive as well.
For these retired players, tensions aren’t all that high because you’re no longer playing for large sums of money or have the stress of representing your country. There’s no need to fight for a place in the side either, so we haven’t seen too many heated moments at the LLC T20 Season 2 so far. However, one such moment took place between two highly respected former international stars yesterday.
Yusuf Pathan, Mitchell Johnson fight at LLC 2022
Indian all-rounder Yusuf Pathan has had a great tournament so far with both bat as well as ball, representing Bhilwara Kings where he’s playing under the captaincy of his younger brother Irfan. Yesterday, his side was in action again against the India Capitals in the Qualifier, being played at the beautiful stadium in Jodhpur. During the first innings of the game, an ugly moment involving Yusuf Pathan took place.
It was up against left-arm Aussie pacer Mitchell Johnson who had a few words to say to the all-rounder and the latter didn’t bother to step down. He walked up to Johnson and plenty to say back to him, until the two were literally in each other’s faces. And Johnson didn’t shy away from shoving and pushing Yusuf, which alarmed everyone around and led to the two being broken up.

The LLC Season 2 tournament has seen only women on-field umpires and it was great to see one of them hold on to Johnson and just drag him away from the spot, thus ensuring that the duo don’t engage in anything else physically. Both being very loved former international cricketers however, they should’ve avoided this becoming into a huge blow-up on the field.
Batting first in this all-important game, Bhilwara Kings put up 226/5 in their 20 overs and this was mostly because of fifties from William Porterfield and Shane Watson, followed by a cameo of 48(24) from the bat of Yusuf. He was in absolute carnage mode and most of his runs came against Mitch Johnson, who ended with horrible figures of 2/52 in his four overs. See the heated moment here:

Eventually, Johnson had the last laugh in Jodhpur as he managed to dismiss Yusuf but not after he was taken to the cleaners. As for his team, Capitals chased down the target with 3 full balls to spare, and booking themselves a spot in the LLC T20 2022 final. From their batsmen, it was Man of the Match Ross Taylor and Ashley Nurse who scored fifties and help take India Capitals to the final.
