Mark Boucher Predicts Exact Powerplay Score (45/3) in Final

We’ve seen great coincidences in cricket in the past and we saw yet another one in today’s 2024 T20 World Cup final, taking place in Barbados. It was India vs South Africa in the much-anticipated final and in the ‘Caught & Bold’ pre-match talk show, we saw a great prediction by one of the cricket experts on the show.

Along with Piyush Chawla, former South African wicket-keeper Mark Boucher joined the show virtually from his home, and was commenting on the upcoming T20 WC 2024 final. Just before the game could begin, the host asked the experts for a powerplay prediction and our man Boucher was bang on with his prediction!

Mark Boucher Predicts Exact Powerplay Score (45/3) in Final

Mark Boucher prediction in IND vs SA final

While Piyush Chawla predicted the loss of a single wicket for India in the powerplay (first 6 overs), Boucher was being a bit more patriotic as he predicted the loss of 3 wickets. Not just, that even went on to say 45/3. While none of us watching would’ve expected that, it turned out to be a bang on prediction as India ended their first 6 overs with 45/3 on the board.

It was left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj who rocked India early on with a double strike. He got the in-form Rohit Sharma for 9 and then got Rishabh Pant for a second ball duck. The third one to go was Suryakumar Yadav, who holed out on the boundary, trying to flick Kagison Rabada over the square leg boundary for six.

From there on, there was a bit of a recovery from the Indian side, with Kohli and Axar Patel getting a move on, until the latter was run out superbly thanks to a direct hit from Quinton de Kock. Axar was threatening to take the game away but he was a bit lazy in turning back from the non-striker’s end, and de Kock was in no mood to miss, aiming at three stumps.

Kohli went on to show his prowess in the IND vs SA final, after having a very poor tournament prior to this. He hit 76 and was dismissed in the 19th over, almost carrying his bat through the innings. India ended with 176/7 in their 20 overs, which also went on to become the highest score in a T20 World Cup final till date.
