It’s the first ever edition of the Betway SA20 League which is taking place in South Africa as we speak. Today we had SA20 2023 Match 28 – Pretoria Capitals vs Durban Super Giants – which was the second game of the Sunday double header.
The Super Giants batted first and every batter made it count, coming out and smashing it to all sides of the park. Openers Quinton de Kock and Ben McDermott got quickfire forties and instead of letting the run rate slide low, Heinrich Klaasen batting at number #3 went berserk right from the word go, ensuring they got well past the 200+ mark.
Heinrich Klaasen gets debut SA20 century
He was motoring away at a strike rate of 200+ through most of his innings and finally got to his first ever SA20 century in the final over of the Durban innings. And while it’s his first century in this tournament, it’s actually only the second time that a batter got past the 100-run mark in the SA20 League, with former South African captain Faf du Plessis getting 113*
There was a time that the commentators and everyone else thought that he wouldn’t get a century in the SA20 2023 League because his partner Matthew Breetzke was hitting a few maximums himself. Finally, he got the strike on the fifth ball of the final over and he didn’t bother waiting to get it on the final ball. He smashed a six straight down the ground to bring up his SA20 century with a six!

There are only two centuries in the SA20 League so far and this became the fastest one, getting there in just 43 balls. He was dropped on the final ball of the innings to finish on 104(44)*. Him and Breetzke got as many as 78 runs in the final 5 overs at nearly 18 runs per over, getting them a record score of 254/4 in their 20 overs, in a must-win game for them in this SA20 League 2023.
His knock included 10 fours and as many as 6 sixes, ending with a strike rate of 236+, and giving his team a big chance to get a win and a win with a bonus point. Pretoria Capitals had 6 wins in 8 games prior to this match today and it’s never to pull off such a knock against the SA20 2023 points table leaders. Klaasen didn’t bat in the last game and prior to that, he was out for a duck. There’s been a lot of criticism for Klaasen and the 31-year old shut them all up today with some outrageous hitting on display. “Loved it, Klaasen’s knock was unreal, watching it from the other end was special,” said his 24-year old partner towards the end of that innings, Breetzke.
