Wen today’s Legends League Cricket (LLC) Season 2 final began in Jaipur’s Sawai Mansingh Stadium, everyone though it was going to be an early night. India Capitals vs Bhilwara Kings in the much-awaited final and the former lost four wickets in the powerplay itself, after being put in to bat. And in most cases, you’re done and dusted if you lost 4 wickets within the powerplay overs of a T20 game.
And even though they were 21/4 within the powerplay, a certain Mr Ross Taylor was out at the crease, show no signs of worry or stress at all. He was blocking deliveries and setting himself up, because he was in great form before this LLC 2022 final, coming into this mega finale with two consecutive fifties, including a blitzkrieg 84(39) in his last game against this same opposition.

Today in a high-pressure game, he decided to play another gam of an innings as he bided his time and then targetted the slow off-spinners of Indian all-rounder Yusuf Pathan. It started raining sixes in Jaipur after Taylor went 6, 6, 6 against Yusuf, all smashed over the mid-wicket boundary for three consecutive sixes to begin the over.
He wanted to go for the full monty and was probably targetting six sixes but he couldn’t do so, as the fourth one didn’t carry and was in fact dropped on the boundary. He managed to come back for a double, played a paddle sweep boundary on the fifth ball of the over and then went over the leg-side boundary for a fourth six on the last ball, thus scoring 30 runs in the over – the most expensive one in the tournament.

Social media was already super excited to watch the former New Zealand batsman in action. He’s been a great servant for Kiwi cricket over the years and the 38-year old only recently retired from the highest level of the game. Clearly though, he’s in great touch as he rolled back the clock in Jaipur and smashed it all over the place, later also bringing up a third consecutive fifty in the LLC T20 tournament.
Yusuf Pathan has been brilliant right through LLC T20 Season 2, with both bat as well as ball. He would’ve not expected this kind of an onslaught at all. And while Taylor was going berserk at one side, Mitchell Johnson from Australia gave him good support at the other end, not allowing the further fall of wickets, and completing a great counter-attack in the LLC final.

Coming in when you’re side is at 9/3 and then smashing a 31-ball fifty is not easy and that’s why he’s been considered as one of the greatest Kiwi batsmen for so many years. To pull off such an innings in a final makes it even better, for his team as well as the millions of fans watching.
