Lizelle Lee Becomes First to Get Consecutive WBBL Centuries

South Africa’s wicket-keeper batter Lizelle Lee is in the form of her life right now. And the team that’s profiting off this form is none other than Hobart Hurricanes from the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL). Currently taking place down under, Lee smashed 150* in her last outing which was the highest individual score in WBBL history.

Today, a couple of days after that record knock, she went on to break yet another record, that of becoming the first player in WBBL century to get back-to-back centuries. Today, she damaged the Adelaide Strikers bowling lineup, seeming like she picked up exactly from where she left off in the last game against the Perth Scorchers.

With 13 fours and 4 big sixes, her knock today may have been less destructive than the one against Perth Scorchers, but that was also because her innings was cut short early. Standing at the on-strikers end in the 15th over, a deflection off the bowler Jemma Barsby’s hand meant she was unfortunately run-out for 103(59).

With 5 full overs left after that over, she could’ve gone on to get yet another big score in today’s WBBL 10 game, but it was not to be. She was 25(23) at some stage, which means it wasn’t a very powerful start. However, she got 78 in her next 36 deliveries to take Hurricanes Women to yet another very competitive score at the Bellerive Oval.

Hurricanes started poorly today after losing Danielle Wyatt-Hodge for a golden duck. However, Lee put up a stunning partnership of 133 runs along with Nicola Carey, the latter also getting a half-century later in the innings. Lee not only became the first to consecutive WBBL hundreds, but she also has all of the last 3 entries in the WBBL centuries list, getting the last one in WBBL 2023 also.

Hurricanes had only 2 wins in 5 games in WBBL 2024 until that first Lizelle Lee century, and now they’ve found themselves in a good position in the season. Today also, they managed to put together 190+ because of Lee’s fireworks with the bat, which was way above par for this venue in the WBBL.

Everyone will be watching Lee in upcoming games, to see if she can further boost herself to three consecutive WBBL centuries, as they take on Adelaide Strikers again on 16th Nov, in a reverse fixture game.
