As cricket fans, we all love a little bit of aggression and a good battle between bat and ball. Sometimes, tempers fly and words are exchanged, which heats up the competition even more. However, it got a little bit out of control today in a Super 12s game of the 2021 ICC T20 World Cup at the Sharjah International Stadium – Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh.
Bangladesh was batting first and their openers Litton Das and Mohammad Naim were going at a decent rate in the powerplay overs. The only bowler that seemed to trouble them early on was Sri Lankan pacer, Lahiru Kumara. The firs signs of aggression we seen was when Naim charged him and he decided to throw the ball back and run out the batter, while almost taking out his head in the process.
In his very next over, Litton Das was dismissed as he tried to scoop one over the covers. It was a good catch from captain Dasun Shanaka but when the cameras came back to the pitch, we saw Kumara engaged in a heated exchange of words between both the batsmen. We don’t know what could’ve initiated the argument but we’re assuming Kumara decided to give him a little sendoff after dismissing him.

Alternatively, it could also be Das trying to stand out for his opening partner because of the incident that happened the previous over. Either way, what followed was a little ugly and not something you want to see in our ‘gentleman’s game’. They were in each other’s face and we even saw a little bit of pushing and nudging happening, before Litton Das brandished his bat in Kumara’s face.
All the Sri Lankan teammates along with the two on-field umpires rushed to the spot to ensure nothing followed in this heated moment. And they did a good job to end the fight before it got any more serious. The on-air commentators were not pleased either, saying how such things aren’t good for the game. See the video here:
